The whole experience has made me really think hard about some things, including my involvement with horses and Sunny in particular. I was feeling so burnt out before I left, and a little bit now as I came home. I am now thinking that was due to me trying to make them the center of my life. That just won't work. Horses cannot be my reason for living. They are allowed to be a bright spot but that's it. I am very excited about my newly found direction and I think this is going to be one of the better things that I have done. I have also come to the conclusion that showing is unhealthy for me and causes me to focus more on winning ribbons than on my relationship with Sunny, so I am going to be taking a break from that. I'll keep in touch with how that goes...

I know what you mean about needing to let other things in your life happen. There was a point in time when I was a teenager that I thought I wanted to go to the Olympics in dressage and so I rode twice a day- once before I got on the school bus at 6:30am and then again when I got home from school in the afternoon.
That doesn't leave much time for friends, or exploring other activities, or even getting all your homework done. And...I think when we push ourselves that way we suck the fun right out of it.
I'm glad your focus has changed. Sounds like your trip was just what you needed to break the spell. And I'm also glad you're setting showing aside for awhile. Personally its not my favorite thing either. I do like the idea of going places with my horse, but I think I'm going to try some fun trail rides rather than shows. :-)
Maybe it's just me, but I think there is difference in your posts after this one.
maybe so... I don't know how you can tell when I'm writing about horse things though. mindreader.
